If the payout for a Do not Pass Odds wager equals the amt. of the Flat bet, then the Odds bet is bridged. The part of your Odds bet that’s the same as the Flat wager is positioned directly next to the Flat bet. Then, the remainder of the Odds wager is positioned on top "bridging" them. For instance, let us say you put a five dollar Don’t Pass wager and the shooter tosses a point of eight. Knowing the true odds for the eight are six to five (i.e., 6 ways to roll a 7, and five ways to roll an 8), you then put $6 in Odds with the expectation of winning $5. In this instance, if you actually win the 6 dollars Odds bet, you earn five dollars, which clearly equals the amt. you win with your 5 dollar Flat wager. Therefore, since your Flat wager and Odds bet earn the same amount ($5 each), you bridge your 6 dollars Odds wager by laying a $5 chip exactly next to your 5 dollar Flat bet, and then putting the $1 chip so it bridges the two five dollar chips.
If the payout for a Don’t Pass Odds wager doesn’t equal the amt. of the Flat wager, then the Odds wager is heeled. This means you position the first chip of your Odds wager chip stack directly next to your Flat bet. Then, put all remaining Odds bet chips on that individual chip but offset and leaning on that first chip (your Odds bet chip stack is tilted because it is angled on the first chip).
Flustered? That is okay, do not get alarmed. The croupier is always willing to assist if you don’t remember. After a few times, it all makes perfect sense. It won’t take too long before you’re an expert. If you’re not certain what to do the initial instance you try it, simply tell the dealer, "I want to put some Odds but I don’t know if it needs to be bridged or heeled." The croupier asks, "How much do you want to lay?" Suppose you say, "Fifteen dollars to win 10." The dealer will request that you drop your chips on the table (croupiers are not permitted to collect anything, especially chips, right from a patron), and then the croupier properly heels or bridges them based on the amt. of your Flat wager. You will quickly get the hang of it. Just don’t be scared to ask the dealer questions. His or Her job is just to deal, but also to be accommodating and assist the gamblers.
