Be smart, play cunning, and master craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers enjoyed Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French headed down south and found refuge in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the nation. Many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the current craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Later, he designed the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
