If you prefer to take a beer every now and then, leave your cash at home if you plan to do your drinking in a betting house. I am not joking. Empty your billfold, your money belt, and leave all cash, debit cards and chequebooks at home. Take just the money you are planning to spend on alcohol, tipping and whatever pocket coins you intend to lose and leave the remainder behind.
Cynical? Not at all. Realistic more like. You may well experience a win after a boozy evening out with your friends and be fortunate enough to catch a 25 minute roll at a hot craps table. Hang on to that account because it is as short-lived as it gets if you continually drink and bet. The two simply don’t mix.
Keeping your money at home is a little excessive, however preventative measures for drastic actions is proportionate and necessary. If you bet to win, then don’t consume alcohol and gamble. If you can afford to throw away your cash without a second thought, then consume all the free alcohol your gut can handle, but don’t take bank cards and chequebooks to toss into the mix of going after losses after your drunken brain squanders all the cash!
